Complete set-up and inspection guide of your PWC

Most areas require Sea-Doo personal watercraft to be properly licensed, registered and insured before heading out on the water. If you’ve just purchased a new Sea-Doo PWC through a dealer, they can usually assist you with any necessary paperwork. If you’ve purchased a used Sea-Doo PWC through a private party, you’ll want to contact your local motor vehicle department or fish and wildlife department to get started. Along with registering your personal watercraft, many locations require the successful completion of a boater’s safety course. Even if this is not required in your area, it’s recommended that everyone on the water take this course. Here are the documents you’ll need:

• License and registration decals placed in proper locations on the side(s) of your Sea-Doo
• Proof of insurance
• Driver’s license and/or proof of completed boater’s safety course

Just like your Sea-Doo personal watercraft, there are a few required items for all riders and a couple pieces of safety gear always required on board. Your Sea-Doo dealer can help you find the perfect fit for riding gear and get you outfitted with the necessary safety gear.

• Coast guard-approved type I, II or III personal flotation device (for both driver and passenger)

• Neoprene bottoms or wetsuit (for both driver and passenger)

• Marine fire extinguisher

• Whistle or small air horn

• Rope or dock lines

• Watertight flashlight

• Other recommended riding gear:

  • Sunscreen

  • Sunglasses/goggles

  • Hat

  • Gloves

  • Riding shoes or boots

A quick visual inspection of a few key areas of your Sea-Doo personal watercraft will have you ready to head for the water in no time. Always refer to your operator’s guide for a full pre-season and official Sea-Doo pre-ride checklist. If you notice something doesn’t seem right, contact your Sea-Doo dealer for assistance.

• Visually inspect the hull and pump intake for damage or debris. You want to ensure the hull is solid and the pump intake is free of any debris.

• Check that engine oil and coolant levels are within operating levels. This process is outlined in your Sea-Doo operator’s guide.

• Move handlebars, throttle and brake lever (if equipped) to validate that each operates freely.

• Check that items in storage compartments, board racks and accessories are secured.

• Check fuel level and top off if needed.

Before you get in line at the boat ramp to launch your Sea-Doo PWC, pull off to the side and prepare your personal watercraft for an efficient launch with these quick steps.

• Remove the seat of your Sea-Doo PWC while you prepare the rest. This gives any gas fumes that may have built up in the engine compartment a chance to escape.

• Undo the transom straps and don’t forget to install the drain plug(s).

• Attach a dock line to the front of your Sea-Doo.

• When it’s your turn, back the Sea-Doo into the water until the transom starts to float off the trailer.

• Unhook the winch strap at the front and push the Sea-Doo free from the trailer.

• Secure your Sea-Doo to the dock, clear of the immediate launch area while you park your vehicle.
• Grab your tether key and PFD and enjoy the ride!
