Do you need a license to ride a Sea-Doo?

Good question, but one without a simple, all-inclusive answer.

In Canada,

the answer is YES! All PWC operators must have a valid license on them when driving their vehicle.

In the United States

as well, most states require operators to take and pass an approved boating safety course, and possess a boating safety education card or certificate. Others may dictate that operators under a specific age may operate a PWC without completing a boating safety course, but only if accompanied by an adult (18 years of age or older) responsible for the craft’s safe operation.

Boating safety courses will teach you valuable information, including how to properly handle your watercraft, safely interact with other boaters out on the water, the meaning of various navigational and warning markers, even how to read the weather to avoid being out in dangerous conditions. Completing a course also may reduce your insurance premiums.
