After the initial shock of coming home from a long day at work and finding the 2012 Sea-Doo RXP-X in my garage, it didn’t take long before I was heading out on the water to break in the new watercraft. In the short amount of time that I’ve had the new RXP-X, it’s already been on four different Florida Rivers, explored most of Tampa Bay, and been out in the Gulf of Mexico.
I was overly anxious to take my first ride so I took Friday off from work, after receiving the RXP-X, and headed east to the St John’s River in Florida. Highwinds, thick clouds, and cold rain weren’t enough to stop me and several others from enjoying the ride. The twisties provided by the winding contour of the SJR make for a perfect location to really test out the turning capabilities of the RXP-X.
Back home in Tampa, it was time to show off the RXP-X at my regular riding locations. During the winter our most frequent ride goes from the Alafia
River, out to Pine Key in Tampa Bay, and then up the Hillsborough River through downtown Tampa. It’s a great ride the offers quite a bit of changing scenery at each location. Having spent most of my life enduring the long winters of Northern Ohio, to be able to go on a ride with 15 watercraft in the middle of February, is something I’ll always enjoy but never take for granted.
No ride through downtown Tampa is complete without checking out the cruise ships. It’s just as much fun to ride past them while they’re docked, as it is to see them out in the open water.
All of this winter riding is fun, but with the arrival of March, it’s almost time to start leaving the wetsuits back at home hanging in the garage! We’ve got watercraft events and get-togethers lined up all through April and May. We’ll officially kick off the Florida Summer riding season during the first weekend in April, with a ride to our favorite local spot, Egmont Key. Then later in April, the Orlando Watercraft Riders will be hosting the “2012 Jetski Spring Bash” at Magnuson Hotel in St Petersburg Fl. So far it looks like 2012 is going to be another exciting year!
